De Montfort creates the next generation of Janet Regers

Photo of Kate HowardYoung lingerie designer, Kate Howard, is being tipped for great things. She is one of 16 students showcasing her talent in a competition organised by one of the world’s leading lingerie designers – Triumph.

Kate – a Contour Fashion student at Leicester’s illustrious De Montfort University – has taken the theme of Butterflies and Dragons and come up with a sensational design.

Based on the translucency of butterfly wings she has created these billowing sleeves. The effect is stunning as are the vibrant colours on the mesh body.

If you want to vote for Kate go to:

Voting closes in two days and the winner will be announced on May 23rd.

Seven other De Montfort students have also been shortlisted for the Triumph Inspiration Awards. The global final will take place in Shanghai in October.

De Montfort – once Leicester School of Art – has a sixty year history of producing top lingerie designers. Janet Reger is one of their most famous daughters and her underwear is still in production even though she sadly died of breast cancer in 2005. Other De Montfort designers can be found at Abercrombie & Fitch, Jack Wills, Coco de Mer, Fleur of England and many, many more top lingerie companies.

Kate Howard is only 21. I’m sure everyone in her home town – Merthyr Tydfil – will be voting for her. Boudoir has clicked through to vote for Kate.

This creation has grace and beauty and perfectly fits what we think is a ‘boudoir illusion’. It’s very Helen Mirren who always makes her arms look beautiful using a range of see through and ‘smoke and mirror’ fabrics.

Fingers crossed for Kate. Have you voted for her yet?

While most of us were sleeping from midnight Saturday until mid morning Sunday thousands of women – and some men – took to the streets of London wearing fantastically decorated bras.

Ab Fab creator, Jennifer Saunders, was sporting a sparkly Swarovski crystal bra as she joined thousands to walk 26 miles through London at night to raise funds for breast cancer. Having fought the disease herself – and got the all clear in 2010 – she braved the low temperatures and bared her chest for a good cause.

This was the 15th annual MoonWalk marathon to raise money for breast cancer research. Over £77million has been raised during this time and Saturday night’s turn out was huge and is sure to push that figure up even further.

It was a star studded night with former Page 3 girls Jilly Johnson and Nina Carter walking in memory of their former boss – British lingerie designer – Janet Reger. Janet Reger died from this diease in 2005. Walking with these two was Anthea Turner remembering her friend, and colleague, Caron Keating who died in 2004 aged only 41.

So bras off to all these fantastic walkers who sacrificed a night in a warm bed to raise money for one of the biggest killers of women every year.
